Notes and Acknowledgements:This work is funded by the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB), project #604.
This set of webpages is provided to make the retrospective study results and graphic depictions of the trawl and environmental data generally accessible to students, researchers and the general public.
Ancillary Data Sources:
Bathymetric Data: NGDC supplied the Terrainbase gridded dataset. We also gridded individual soundings from the NOS Soundings Database to create our own relief map.
Reynolds-Smith Extended Reconstructed Sea Surface Temperature (ERSST) from NCDC.
Sea Ice Concentration (primarily daily passes at 25km resolution) from passive microwave data at NSIDC.
Hourly meteorlogical data recorded at Nome was obtained from NCDC. This data was employed to estimate heat fluxes from buk formulae following the COARE 2.5 algorithm for sensible and latent, Reed (1977) for shortwave, and Berliand and Berliand (1952) for longwave radiation fluxes. Clear sky incident solar radiation values were obtained from the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis.
Yukon river discharge values from USGS.
Links to the climate index datasets in our main table take you to external web sites and are included to offer some background on the indices as well as links to the data used in generating the timeseries plots. The datasets and responsible institutions are given below:
- Arctic Oscillation from CPC
- Pacific Decadal Oscillation from JISAO
- North Pacific Index from UCAR/CGD
- Southern Oscillation Index from UCAR/CGD
- Pacific-North American Index from CPC
We thank the researchers, institutions and agencies that make all of these datasets available.
